Wall Drying

A wet wall drying on its own rarely ends well. Water travels through the capillary voids of brick and plaster; while the surface appears to dry, moisture remains deep inside. A few months later, it returns as paint blistering, plaster flaking, and mold stains.

The TeknoDRY wall drying service aims to remove water without demolishing the wall and with the least possible intervention. First, where the moisture is coming from is determined — because any drying performed without eliminating the source is only temporary.

We distinguish the source of moisture

  • Sudden water damage: pipe burst, roof leak, flooding. It starts with a specific event and has clear boundaries.
  • Rising damp: ground water rising from the foundation through capillary action. It appears as a horizontal band on the lower section of the wall.
  • Condensation moisture: vapor in indoor air turning into water on a cold surface. It usually starts at exterior wall corners and window edges.
  • Construction moisture: the material's own production water in new buildings.

Correctly identifying the source determines the method. If moisture caused by condensation is dried without addressing insulation and ventilation, it will recur in the same way within a few months.

Measurement and imaging

We use moisture measurement devices on site and thermal cameras when necessary. Thermal imaging shows the boundaries of the wet area without opening up the wall; this minimizes the area to be broken and ensures no wet area is overlooked. Measurement points are recorded and repeated at the same points throughout the drying process.

Drying method

For surface moisture, ambient drying is sufficient: the space is dried using a dehumidifier and air circulators, and the wall releases its moisture into the air. If water has penetrated between a cavity wall, sub-screed void, or insulation layer, pressurized drying is applied; dry air is injected or moist air is extracted through small drilled holes. This method removes water between layers without dismantling the structure.

Upon completion of drying, a report containing initial and final measurements is delivered. If an insurance claim has been filed, this report can be used during the assessment process.
